  • South Pacific - June 5-22, Maine State Music Theatre - Brunswick

South Pacific - June 5-22, Maine State Music Theatre - Brunswick

World War II is the backdrop for two love stories threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with Emile, a local French estate owner. Nellie learns that the mother of his children is an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, initially refuses Emile’s marriage proposal. Meanwhile, Lt. Joe Cable denies himself a future with an island girl out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe’s life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her chance for happiness, thus confronting – and conquering – her prejudices. Familiar songs like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame,” and “Younger Than Springtime” are what have made this musical a classic.

South Pacific is a co-production with the Fulton Theatre.

  • Maine Oyster Festival June 29 & 30 - Freeport

    Maine Oyster Festival June 29 & 30 - Freeport

Visitors flock to Maine from around the globe to enjoy our world class seafood, and Maine oysters are no exception. Celebrate this tasty and environmentally critical bivalve in Freeport on June 29 & 30, 2024 for Visit Freeport’s third annual celebration of Maine oysters.

There are now more than 150 oyster farms dotting Maine’s 3,500 mile long coastline. Oysters grow slowly in Maine’s cold waters, and that gives them more time to soak up the flavors in their home waters. Differences in the food they eat as well as the temperature and salinity of the water produce a wide variety of flavor characteristics from farm to farm. The Maine Oyster Festival celebrates oysters and the people who farm them from up and down the entire Maine coast!

Follow The Maine Oyster Festival on Facebook or Instagram for updates.
